Yes, I should be a PC!

The qualifications, job description and reasons why YOU should be a Precinct Committeeperson

What is a PC? (Precinct Committeeperson)

  • A precinct is the smallest unit of government, with roughly 300 to 1500 voters. In Arizona law, a PC is the elected or appointed representative of the Democratic Party to the neighborhoods -- the vital link between elected officials, the Party, and the voters. Only registered Democrats living in their precinct can apply to be a PC.

What are examples of things I would do as a PC?

  • Wear a button. Put a bumper sticker on your car. Network with people of all political parties so they can see how great Democrats really are. YOU are the Democratic Party.
  • Introduce yourself to registered Democrats and Independents in your neighborhood while you collect signatures for Democratic candidates running for public office or for ballot issues with democratic values (petitions for signature gathering are circulated up to 10 months before elections).
  • Persuade voters to vote Democrat, then Get Out the Vote: Encourage Voting by Mail so we have a better chance of getting our people to the polls.
  • Collect small contributions ($5 and $1o) from neighbors and friends for candidates who are running "clean elections". Clean elections candidates need to gather small contributions in order to qualify for city or state campaign finance funds.
  • Recruit volunteers to fill vacant PC slots and share the load in building an enthusiastic grass-roots organization for the Pima County Democratic Party. Build our base!
  • Identify and represent the interests of these voters and express their concerns at a monthly legislative district meeting.
  • Register new Democratic voters in your neighborhood, including 18 year olds, and talk to voters (either by phone or door to door) to increase Democratic voter turnout.
  • Recruit poll workers for election day and monitor problems at your polling place.

Why should I be a PC?

  • We need you to help promote ACTION over apathy. INFORMATION over ignorance.

How do I become a PC?

  • You need to get 10 or more signatures on the Partisian Nomination Petition and turn it in by June 4, 2008 along with your notarized Affidavit of Qualification.
  • You can download the forms you need here: Nomination Petition and Affidavit of Qualification.
